Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining of the control group revealed glomerular damage, which was characterized by segmental glomerular sclerosis and the formation of synechiae by the attachment of parietal epithelial cells to the denuded glomerular basement membrane (PAS stain, original magnification ×400).
