NBO treatment reduces NADPH oxidase activity in ischemic hemispheric tissue of the wild-type mice (WT), but not gp91phoxknock-out mice (KO). Mice were subjected to 90-min MCAO with 22.5 hrs of reperfusion, NBO treatment or normoxia (NA) was given during 90-min MCAO. NADPH oxidase activity in ischemic hemispheric microvessels was assayed using lucigenin-enhanced chemiluminescence. NBO treatment significantly reduced NADPH oxidase activity in WT mice, but not in gp91phoxKO mice which already showed significantly low NADPH oxidase activity. *p < 0.05 versus NA-WT, n = 6.
